Welcome to the Pike & Eel Boat Club

In
the beginning:
The
Pike & Eel Boat Club was born on Sunday 7th August 1966 and the main
object was to foster a spirit of friendship amongst those using the river,
to have social get-togethers and offer assistance to any boaters in trouble.
Our first Commodore was Reg Brewer and the very first function held was
a Laying Up Buffet dance. Encouraged by the success of this first event,
the following year saw more events planned and an increase in membership.
Many
of the functions that were held back then are still included in our calendar,
like the Laying Up Supper, Commodores Cocktail Party and our Regatta weekend.
Over the years the inevitable changes have taken place but the original
spirit of the club lives on and we continue to thrive and encourage boaters
along the river to come and see how they too can enjoy our boat club.
The
Pike & Eel Boat club is located downstream of St Ives lock in the
extensive grounds of the Pike & Eel Hotel. Our social calendar includes
cruising, land-based events, dining events and socialising with other
boat clubs so there is something for everybody to enjoy and take part
in.
In
our 43rd year we are very proud that our club still
upholds it’s original objectives and has been part of the River
Great Ouse for so many years. We are looking forward to the next 40
years –
why not come and join us and become part of the Pike & Eel Boat Club
and make history with us.
